Government Medical college, Haridwar is one of the four new medical colleges established in the state of Uttarakhand under Centrally Sponsored Scheme, with the aim to improve quality tertiary level healthcare in the Haridwar region of the state.

This medical college is established in pious city of Uttarakhand state, ‘Haridwar’ also termed as ‘Gateway of God. Haridwar is one of the first towns where Ganga emerges from the mountains to touch the plane areas. Holy river “Ganga” has been alleviating suffering of human beings since time immemorable. People come to holy city of Haridwar for relief of pain, agony and suffering at higher level. Establishment of a new Government Medical college and associated hospital on the bank of river Ganga, in an area of 75 acres, will further provide divine serenity of healing apart from the physical healing.

Decision to start a new Government Medical college in Haridwar is going to deliver a centre of excellence in medical education, training, research and health care services filled with compassion for the sick. The establishment of this institute will be an important step in providing quality medical care and improve the health care facility in Haridwar district as well as in inaccessible areas of Uttarakhand.

This medical college is being established with the aim to develop advance patterns of teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education along with advancement in health care services in Uttarakhand. It will bring educational facilities of highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity; and will also attain self-sufficiency in postgraduate medical education. The institute will also encourage and support healthy and productive lifestyles to prevent the life style diseases in the community.

Government Medical college, Haridwar is being established with the future strategy to start Mch and DM programs as super-specialty institution also. This would be first medical college in the state with unified campus. It is affiliated to the prestigious Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University, Dehradun.

This medical college will strive to nurture a well-versed professional doctor with a strong and comprehensive foundation of medical knowledge. The students will learn through rigorous academics and a balanced focus on extra-curricular activities and will be trained to make decisions independently.

Another positive aspect of this medical college is its connectivity. This medical college is situated on a national highway, its nearby airport is Jolly Grant airport and railway station is only 7 km away from the college. The medical college will cater health services to the patients of Haridwar and adjoining plain districts of Uttarakhand as well as it will drain patients from the mid and upper Himalayan region of Garhwal mandal.
